Ten years after his death, the figure of Claudio Abbado continues to represent a unique reference point in the musical world.
No other conductor since Herbert von Karajan has left such a strong imprint on interpretation, and it is no coincidence that his recordings continue to be published and studied.
No other conductor has been in charge, of course at different times, of two theaters like La Scala and the Vienna State Opera and two orchestras like the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic.

This work aims to fix a previously unseen image of Claudio Abbado, following his artistic journey almost day by day, from his first concerts as a pianist to his last unforgettable ones in Lucerne.
Accompanying the chronology of works and concerts is a rich appendix of details, a kind of artistic radiography that focuses from time to time on the repertoire, operatic and symphonic, orchestras, soloists and singers.
An attempt is also made to shed light on the lesser-known period of Abbado’s career, the early one, by poking around the examination records at the Conservatory as well.

A roundup of playbills and programs of operas and concerts brings to life, even visually, the long journey from the 1950s to the first decade of the new century.
