Presentation of Vol. II of the Complete 18 String Quartets by Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848)
Mitja Quartet presents the second volume of the complete string quartets by Gaetano Donizetti. Donizetti can be considered among the most influent Italian chamber music composer of the 19th century. His engaging quartes witness his will of learning from his classic predecessors: Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. The Mitja Quartet is honored to be the first ensemble to record the complete series of these unique and precious quartets. Its recordings have been nominated for the International Classical Music Awards 2022 (Chamber Music).

Formed in 2008 by four artists from Naples, Benevento, Potenza, and La Serena (Chile), the Mitja Quartet recently completed a six-concert tour in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Seoul and Sol’Opera management. Alongside guitarist Giovanni Grano, they have performed in the most important theaters in South Korea, including the National Theater of Korea, Geochang Cultural Center, Geoje Arts and Culture Center, Seongnam Grand Theatre, and Bucheon Art Center.
The Mitja has been awarded at the XXXIV National Francesco Cilea Competition and the XIV International Pietro Argento Competition; they were winners of the International EMF Young Musician Award (Rotary Club Prize 2016) and the European Jacopo Napoli Competition.
Their monographic album on G. F. Malipiero (2015-Tactus) received the highest stars from Rivista Musica. In 2020, for Urania Records, the Mitja Quartet released the first volume of the complete 18 quartets by Gaetano Donizetti – Baltazar Zuñiga producer – earning a prestigious nomination for the International Classical Music Awards 2022 (chamber music).
The Mitja Quartet has been a guest on various radio and television stations such as Rai5, Swiss Television, Radio3 Suite, Vatican Radio, Rai2, and La7; they have also collaborated with Sandro Cappelletto and Giovanni Bietti.
In 2015, the ensemble toured in the Sultanate of Oman for Arabesque International after performing for the American director Francis Ford Coppola.
The Mitja has been a guest at important Music Festivals, appearing alongside artists of the caliber of Giovanni Sollima, and undertaking intense concert activities.
The ensemble was formed, thanks to significant scholarships, at the most prestigious academies in Europe: Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, European Academy of the Quartet in Florence, Accademia W. Stauffer in Cremona, ProQuartet – European Center for Chamber Music – Paris, Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland in Weikersheim; International Piano Academy of Imola; studying with internationally renowned musicians and ensembles, such as the Artemis Quartet, Alban Berg Quartett, Cuarteto Casals, Kuss Quartet, Quartetto di Cremona, Antonello Farulli, Andrea Nannoni, and Alfred Brendel.
