Presentation of the novel “Rimmel” by Margherita Torretta. With live piano performances.

Sveva is eighteen years old and has a promising future as a ballet dancer ahead of her but, suddenly, a serious accident annihilates her prospects.
From the rolling hills of Piacenza, she finds herself having to live for a few months in the Burn Unit of Parma Hospital, and it will be that very body that was blossoming and had allowed her to define her future that will instead spell the end of her plans.
She will find relief from the heaviness of her new condition in the strong bond with her grandmother Maria, a special woman with extraordinary vitality and an unfailing touch of rimmel on her eyelashes.
The journey of accepting a “patched-up” body takes time, winding through disappointments and strenuous identity adjustments, then finally music, a totalizing discovery that could give voice to her most intimate expressiveness.
But Sveva is overdue; she will have to work hard without ever losing sight of new goals that will too often be clouded by misguided and limiting loves.
She will have to understand that the indispensable first step to any action is self-knowledge and that the only way to try to be happy is to stay true to one’s aspirations.
Besides, as one of her close friends reminds her, “If you betray yourself, everything else around you will also bring unpleasant surprises.”
