In this new meeting, hosted by ESTA Italia, we will explore how the sensory system regulates and controls (or disrupts?) the actions that enable performance on a stringed instrument. Professor Anthony Mangiacotti, researcher and lecturer at the University of West London, will share insights from neuroscience and psychology; Anna Modesti, professor of violin education at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, will present some recurring issues in teaching and playing stringed instruments; and Antonello Farulli, musician, educator, and president of ESTA Italia, will suggest some resolution strategies. Cellist Giulia Mazza will share her story, introducing the themes of a profoundly deaf human being’s approach and illustrating the technical characteristics of the keyboard that have enabled her to advance her technical development.
