This concert forms part of a recording project devoted to the rediscovery and promotion of the chamber vocal works of Francis Thomé (Port Louis, 1850 – Paris, 1909), a Mauritian composer who established himself on the vibrant Parisian musical scene.
Deliberately arranged in a non-chronological sequence, the programme takes the listener on a journey through the rich variety of atmospheres evoked by Thomé’s music. The selected works reveal a refined palette of colours, emotions and impressions: from the intimacy of love to sorrow, from contemplation to light-heartedness, culminating in the rhythmic vitality and theatrical brilliance of the final two pieces.
