On Friday, October 2, at 6:00 PM, the Stauffer Academy will host an open class with Vilde Frang—one of the most original violinists on the international scene and winner of the 2026 Cremona Musica Award in the Strings Performance category.. The event, part of the collaboration between the Stauffer Academy and Cremona Musica, will be held in the Sala Stradivari at Palazzo Stauffer.
Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang was invited by Mariss Jansons to make her debut with the Oslo Philharmonic at the age of just twelve, launching a career that has seen her perform with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. In 2012, she received the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award, an honor followed by her debut with the Vienna Philharmonic under Bernard Haitink at the Lucerne Festival. An exclusive Warner Classics artist, she has built an award-winning discography over the years while maintaining a strong commitment to chamber music—a central element of her artistic exploration—alongside her international career. *The Guardian* has described her sound as “icy, ardent, whispered, richly varied,” capturing the breadth of her expressive palette.
During the open masterclass, Frang will work with Kristel Kraja and Teofil Milenkovic—two students from Salvatore Accardo’s violin course—on pieces from the major violin repertoire, accompanied on the piano by Maria Grazia Bellocchio. The audience will be able to follow this process up close, observing how meticulous work on technique and interpretation comes together, step by step, to shape the music.
Free admission until capacity is reached.
The collaboration with Cremona Musica also extends to the presentation of the book *Voci ritrovate* (Rediscovered Voices), scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at 5:00 PM in the Sala Amati at CremonaFiere. As the first monograph in Italy dedicated to the British violist and composer Rebecca Clarke, the volume—edited by Ilaria Giani—traces the viola’s gradual rise as a solo instrument and portrays Clarke in all her human and artistic complexity, weaving together history, analysis, and critical reflection. During the event, Niccolò Corsaro (a student in Bruno Giuranna’s viola class) and pianist Clara Dutto will perform Clarke’s 1919 Sonata for Viola and Piano, one of the most compelling contributions to the 20th-century viola repertoire.
