Exhibo: worldwide excellence for Italian sound. Interview with Stefano Brusa

by Margherita Levante

Exhibo is a leading company in the research, selection and distribution of audio, video and lighting solutions in the Italian market. Since its founding in 1958, Exhibo has shown insight and foresight in understanding which products will be successful, through dynamic marketing support and consulting and service. It has become a reliable partner for major international companies and this year will be a technical sponsor of Cremona Musica International Exhibitions and Festival, also presenting exclusive novelties such as the MCM (Miniature Clip Microphone) series of contact microphones for acoustic instruments: Stefano Brusa, the company’s speaker and brand manager, tells us about it.

How long has Exhibo been in existence? What is its mission?

We have been in business for more than 60 years, and our goal is to distribute throughout Italy the best products in the audio, acoustics, communication, and security fields. Among the great brands we represent are Sennheiser and Neumann, both historic brands.Neumann was founded in Berlin in 1928 as a manufacturer of recording microphones and was later acquired by Sennheiser. Thanks to us, their products have come to Italy.

What sets you apart from other companies?

Our strength is undoubtedly our extensive catalog: we offer a wide range of innovative solutions for professional and consumer applications in music, broadcast, recording, and system integration, from design to installation. We are not exclusively dedicated to audio and video products, although these remain our core business. We are also one of the longest established distributors in Italy, a staple since the days when electronics conquered the world.

What are currently the winning proposals in the market?

Quality and reliability are needed in all fields of application. Sometimes price is an important factor, but professionals and large entities-such as Rai, Sky, and many systems integrators who have been our partners forever-don’t dwell on this aspect and demand the effectiveness of what they buy, so they don’t risk wasting time on technical glitches.

How did the collaboration with the Acoustic Guitar Village in Cremona begin?

The meeting was possible thanks to our network of agents, who put us in touch with artistic coordinator Alessio Ambrosi. The proposal immediately piqued our interest; I myself studied Paleography and Music Philology right in Cremona in the 1980s, and the idea of returning to propose audio solutions at a prestigious fair excited me. Last year we provided microphones for use on various stages, as we will do in this edition. We will not have a booth dedicated to our products, but we will be featured on Friday at the Violin Museum in a sponsored evening.

What has stuck with you from the fair?

I was particularly impressed by the pavilion dedicated to violin making, the genuineness of the musicians, and the pleasant, not too hectic atmosphere. I had a hard time talking to some dealers because they were surrounded by so many buyers! I did not expect such a significant influx of visitors, especially foreigners and those with large budgets. It was wonderful to admire the flourishing of this city, in my memory small and provincial, and now an international landmark!
