Electric Sound Village is pleased to have among its exhibitors an international reference in the world of vintage instruments and effects pedals with contacts among all the most important musicians in the world: ISLE OF TONE.
Joe, What is your history and your relationship with music?
“I grew up with the music of the 1960s and 1970s. My parents introduced me to Hendrix, Zappa, Doors, LED Zeppelin and many more.
My dad used to play guitar and bass when he was a teen and basically asked me when I was 10 years old, If I‘ld be interested in starting playing the guitar. I started playing „classical music“ first before I finally got my first electric guitar and amp in 1996 ( a classy black Fender USA Strat and a Marshall combo). I always was surrounded by my parents friends or guys from school, way older than me.
That basically led me to buy vintage stuff, collecting everything old like vinyls, arts etc. Some said I might be born into the „wrong century „. Music helped me making it through any kind of crises and is one of the most important thing in life to me. It connects and satisfies ( most of the time)”
What are your thoughts on tradition and innovation, or on contemporary instruments (electric sound) in Cremona?
First of all, it’s not possible to reinvent the wheel or better to say, in many ways it’s ( to me) just not necessary. I’m deeply impressed by all the legendary builders in music history. It’s great to get inspired but I don’t like stuff that’s basically just copying without putting own effort and knowledge into any kind of product. It’s not just bout making money first. I’m honored to participate in Cremona, one of those cities in music history that is one of the most important ones.
What do you bring to Cremona with your exhibition, and what do you think of Italy and vintage electric instruments?
“I’ll bring 2-3 IOT one off pedals we showed up with first in pedals history; as well as one of my master engineers 5 watts amp. Everything else will be super rare vintage stuff which will provide plenty of material for discussion and match Cescos rare guitars”
