Past, present and future of the opera Francesco Filidei receives the Cremona Musica Award for Composition

Everything is ready in Cremona for the 2025 edition of Cremona Musica International Exhibitions and Festival, scheduled for September 26th to 28th.

Among the numerous guests and events, the names of the artists who will be honored with the Cremona Musica Awards have been announced: for many years now, performers and institutions that have achieved excellence in the world of music have been granted this prestigious prize – among them Alfred Brendel, Michael Nyman and Krzysztof Penderecki.

For the Composition category, the 2025 edition will give the Cremona Musica Award to Italian composer Francesco Filidei: the ceremony will take place during the Gala night on Friday the 26th at the Museo del Violino, and will be accompanied by the performance of one piano work by Filidei, “Berceuse”, played by young pianist Lucrezia Liberati.

Born in Pisa, Filidei is now one of the most esteemed and performed contemporary Italian composers. A pupil of Salvatore Sciarrino, his first opera Giordano Bruno premiered at the Casa da Musica in Porto in 2014, while Il nome della rosa was commissioned by Teatro alla Scala and Opéra national de Paris and premiered at Teatro alla Scala in 2025. He will be awarded for his unique approach to opera, both innovative and respectful of the tradition, and for his engagement in the promotion of classical music.

In addition to Filidei, the Cremona Musica Awards will also be awarded to violinist Midori (Performance category), Franco Scala for the “Incontri col Maestro” Piano Academy (Project category), and pianist Bruno Canino (A Life for the Piano).
